Subject: PLCC - Free Recycling of Electronics
Subject: Free Recycling of Electronics at 200 Sites in Washington State Beginning January 1, 2009
A state-wide program effective January 1, 2009 will offer free recycling of certain electronic
components (televisions, computers, monitors, and laptops) at about 200 recycling locations
throughout the state. Five of the closest locations are:
1. Bremerton: Goodwill Industries, 4209 Wheaton Way, and
Value Village, 3449 Wheaton Way
2. Bainbridge Island: Goodwill Industries, Highway 305 and High School Road
3. Poulsbo: All Shred, 16952 Clear Creek Road
4. Kingston: Olympic Printers, 26127 Calvary Lane
5. Port Townsend: Goodwill Industries, 602 Howard St.
Materials not covered are: computer mice, printers, cell phones, scanners, and other electronic
components. Some sites may take the non-covered items for free, others may charge a fee,
and others may refuse the non-covered items.
The Goodwill Industries and other recipients will be able to resell usable computers before
packing and shipping other units for recycling. All materials will go to one of two locations
for dismantling and recycling: Total Reclaim in Seattle or IMS Electronics in Vancouver, WA.
In this new program, Washington State will ask manufacturers to figure out a system to take
care of the problem. The cost of recycling will be incorporated into the price of new products.
