["The PLCC usually has a SIG following our monthly meeting to discuss and elaborate on the subject of the monthly meeting. Not this time. Fire Chief Ed Wilkerson and his crew gave a wonderful presentation...but it's not the stuff for a SIG.
I've offered to fill in the GAP." Dick Allyn]

Windows "Vista"
The Special Topics SIG subject for September (Sept. 15, 10:30-12:00, Bay Club Classroom) is Windows Vista. Many of you may be curious what Vista brings to the table compared to the old stand-by Windows XP. Some of you may already have Vista and have a lot of questions. There is going to be a lot of information for both groups. By no means will this be an in-depth review of the many enhancements of Vista compared to XP. The major differences, the ones most obvious when you first use Vista, will be highlighted with demonstrations.

Many things will be no different in Vista vs. XP. Certainly all of your programs that you use now are going to look and act the same way. Only the operating system functions will look different and have additional or improved functionality. The transition to Vista may seem to be a little tough or frustrating at first, but once you use it a few weeks, you will be comfortable with it. The more you use it, the more you will find that it is a marked improvement from XP.

There has been much negative press about Vista. it reminds one of the political pundits; the more bad things you say about something, the more important you sound. Some criticism is justified but overblown. If you don’t knock Vista, you seem to be out of touch. We’ll talk about some of these criticisms.

Bottom line – once you use it and become familiar with it, you’ll never look back!
